Walter C. Clarke, is a Principle Vice President at Burke & Herbert Bank and Head of Small Business.. In this role, Walter manages the sales process for small business and coaches the branch managers in assist Businesses with their borrowing needs. He brings over 30 years of banking and financial services experience to the position. He is a graduate of Virginia State University, and has worked in various capacities including mortgage, wealth management, and business banking for various National Banks in the region. He has developed expertise in assisting emerging businesses with challenges gaining access to capital and managing cash flow as they navigate this complex economy during 2007-2008 Financial crisis and during COVID-19 helping to facility The SBA - Paycheck Protection Program.
He also managed the Department of Defense relocation program and facilitated the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program during President Clinton’s Administration, where he participated in congressional hearings and conducted seminars and housing fairs to Base Commanders and employees for Air Force and Army.
Clarke has served
as a member of The Board of Trustees at the Alfred Street Baptist Church, Alexandria,
VA. He is currently serving as the Planning
Commissioner for Fairfax County, Mount Vernon District. Clarke has also served as the Past Chairman
for The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Past President of
Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation, Co-Chaired Fairfax County Embark
Richmond Highway Advisory Group, Mount Vernon Lee Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors, and Alexandria Advisory Council for The Salvation Army as Chairman.
