RPSV Offers Ideas to Start the New Year

The advent of a new year reminds us of what it means to recover. It is a time to start fresh, to forgive, to leave behind pain, regret, and old challenges, and to embrace a whole new you. It is also a time to make new resolutions, to grow, and to move forward.

Recovery is individual and non-linear but, ultimately, it is a process where we embark on a self-directed journey of change without the hindrances of the past to reach our full potential. Let’s do this!

In 2024, RPSV encourages you to…

  • Be Empowered by making choices that align with your values and goals.
  • Hang on to Hope by believing in your ability to move forward.
  • Love yourself fully by doing daily acts of Self-Care and celebrating them. No act of self-kindness is too small.
  • Take it One Day At A Time. Change is slow. Change can be challenging. Change CAN happen!
  • Believe that you are worth doing the work. Trust that truth!
  • Stop Being So Hard On Yourself. Every time you want to admonish yourself if you do not achieve your goals, just think – would you speak to someone else the way you talk to yourself? We are our own worst critics. Often the critical words we use to describe ourselves are those we have heard from others in the past. Do not take on their narratives. You are awesome, believe it! Treat yourself with kid gloves and always practice self-love!
  • Take a Holistic Approach. Remember, recovery includes every aspect of ourselves -- our physical health, our relationships, our work, and our community involvement. It means examining our entire being and making changes if needed.
  • Lean On Your Resilience. People in recovery are resilient. Resilience means bouncing back from setbacks and not letting them derail all your efforts to date. It means learning from past challenges and adapting to changing circumstances. In moments of self-doubt, think about how far you have come and use it as a catalyst to keep going forward!
  • Let Go! Many people spend time focusing on the past and not living in the present. They allow past experiences to stunt their personal growth. Letting go is difficult at times but for your peace of mind and future joy, please, learn to let go!
  • Be Patient. Recovery is for a lifetime. Recovery is a continuous process. New days bring new challenges and stressors but the journey of recovery is worth it to live life on your terms!
  • Always Reach Out for help if you need it. Know that you do not have to work toward recovery alone. RPSV is always here for you! It is our pleasure to help!

In 2024, let’s be grateful for how far we have come and hopeful for how far we can go. Let’s be proud of our achievements, and let’s learn from our mistakes. Let’s be kind to ourselves, and be empathetic to others. In 2024, let’s be the best versions of ourselves, and inspire others to do the same by sharing our stories of recovery and perseverance! We wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
